TRINITAS AT RAHWAY SENIOR HEALTH FAIR

Trinitas' participation in the event also included a quiz to determine sleep disorders, and a demonstration of emergency response equipment by several Trinitas paramedics.
DONORS CELEBRATE CENTER OF REGIONAL EDUCATION'S PROGRESS
The major funders of the rinitas Center of Regional Education (CORE) building - a new community and medical education facility in Elizabeth - gathered on Monday to celebrate the progress of the $5.3 million project.
Located on Elizabeth Avenue near Broad Street, the CORE building will be a state-of-the-art facility for anyone seeking health, wellness and medical information, and professional training in the field of emergency response. According to Gary S. Horan, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trinitas Regional Medical Center, "The CORE building will be a lasting resource for people from throughout the region seeking health information to enhance their lives and the lives of others. It represents an investment in the future and a true partnership between Trinitas, the City and the community."

Trinitas Celebrates Red Letter Day with Seniors in Elizabeth
At the Stephen Sampson Senior Community Center in Elizabeth, the Elizabeth Chapter of American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) celebrated its official charter in April, 2011.
In May, 2009, the community expressed interest in establishing a chapter of AARP to be based at the Center in Elizabeth. Nancy DiLiegro, PhD, FACHE, Vice President, Clinical Services, Leonora Panagopoulos, Community Initiatives Coordinator, and Lisa Liss, Director of Volunteer Services, helped the early formation efforts of chapter president Barbara Shannon, former Supervisor of the Office on Aging of the City of Elizabeth and a former Trinitas volunteer.

Union County Human Relations Commission Honors Dean of Trinitas Regional Medical Center School of Nursing
Dean Mary Beth Kelley of Trinitas School of Nursing (TSON) was among 15 honorees who received the 2011 Special Recognition Unity Achievement Award from the Union County Human Relations Commission. The award honors individuals and organizations that "foster human rights and relations among the people of Union County, and who promote and advance the understanding, acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity." TRMC Partnership Again Stresses Good Health among Teens
Students at Elizabeth High School celebrated fitness, better eating habits, and the benefits of regular exercise as a way to reduce their risk of chronic health conditions, especially diabetes and obesity, at the fourth annual Healthy Leap into Summer. Trinitas Regional Medical Center along with the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce and other civic groups provided valuable information on lifestyle changes to remind teens that good health is in their hands. Dance exhibitions, contests, and motivational speakers kept the young audience energized during the day-long event at the high school gym.
A special appearance by Julianna White, reigning Miss New Jersey USA, shown here with Nancy DiLiegro, PhD, FACHE, Vice President, Clinical Services, and Jim Coyle, President of the Gateway Chamber of Commerce, added star power to the message that being healthy never goes out of style.
Trinitas Chairperson of the Board Receives Honor from United Hospital Fund
Maureen Shaughnessy, SC, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Trinitas Health & Trinitas Regional Medical Center and past-immediate General Superior of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, based in Convent Station, New Jersey, was the recipient of the 2011 United Hospital Fund Distinguished Trustee Award in June. In Step with Youth Fighting Cancer
The Elizabeth Chapter of Rotary International sponsors the Early Act Club at the school and encourages the community spirit and commitment to service that spurred students (above) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy (OLGA) in Elizabeth to raise funds for cancer research. Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center recently joined to support the students' Walk for the Cure effort. Amparo Aguirre of the Cancer Outreach Program at Trinitas successfully connected OLGA with Mary Hess of the Community Profile staff of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure who received the more than $1,000 which was raised. Dr. Barry Levinson, the Center's Medical Director (below, standing) visited with OLGA students following their Walk in the spring.
Wound Education Day Heightens Awareness
More than 250 Trinitas Regional Medical Center nursing staff members and physicians, as well as students from Trinitas School of Nursing, visited a Wound Education Day that coincided with National Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Week. Initiated and facilitated by Nursing Administrative Team member, Cathy Tenore, RN MSN CWOCN, with the assistance of Diane Reehil, RN APN GNP, MED/SURG Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Debbie Durand, RN APN, Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist, the event featured representatives from wound care product suppliers. Resource personnel were on hand to explain informative displays on wound assessment and computer documentation.
Tenore reports that there have been significant increases in wound care treatment among Trinitas' inpatient units as well as Brother Bonaventure Extended Care Center, Trinitas' long-term care setting. "As more staff members perform wound care treatment, efforts to expand their knowledge and increase their confidence benefits them and their patients," Tenore adds.
Glittering Night of Giving
A breath-taking venue, a gourmet menu, and tributes to extraordinary philanthropists crated a glittering evening for more than 500 guests as "The Gift of Health" was celebrated at the Trinitas Health Foundation's annual gala in May, 2011. The generosity of those who supported the event helped the Foundation raise nearly $500,000 to advance the efforts of Trinitas Regional Medical Center. (Click here for more ...)
