SEASONED VOLUNTEER NAMED TO LEAD TRINITAS AUXILIARY
Newly-installed Chair Promotes Interest in Group's Activities

Seasoned Volunteer Named to Lead Trinitas Auxiliary Union Resident Elizabeth Weishapl, who has devoted more than 37,000 volunteer hours to Trinitas Regional Medical Center for more than three decades, was recently named the Chairman of the medical center's Auxiliary.

As a member of the Auxiliary Board, Liz has served as the Event Chair for 25 years. She has been in charge of the popular trips and successful vendor sales held at Trinitas Regional Medical Center whose proceeds benefit Trinitas patients.

For her boundless energy and decades-long dedication to her chosen volunteer efforts, Liz has a long list of recognitions. The Newark Archdiocese Council of the National Council of Catholic Women named her the Catholic Woman of the Year in 2001 and the New Jersey Hospital Association Council on Auxiliaries also named her its Auxilian Catalyst of the Year for Trinitas. In 2008, Liz was named the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Volunteer of the Year and was also recognized with the Morris Rudner Volunteer Award at the Trinitas Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in 2008. The Italian American Club of Union has also given Liz its Volunteer of the Year award.

"Volunteering at Trinitas has been such a rewarding part of my life," says Liz. "I've used life skills that I gained as a buyer for Stan Sommers in Union, and for 'The Gerte' in Elizabeth for more than 20 years and I've enjoyed friendships with so many people who work and volunteer at the hospital. In fact, it's a family affair since my husband Frank has volunteered for 26 years. It truly is my second home. I'm pleased and proud to be able to continue the fine work of the Auxiliary and I look forward to many more successful vendor sales and trips organized during my Chairmanship."

In addition to her volunteer hours at Trinitas, Liz had also given her time and energy to Union Hospital until its closure in 2007. Thanks to her influence, many former Union Hospital volunteers now volunteer at Trinitas.
